I’ve used the ScanGauge ii  for a bit more than a month. I’m very glad I finally decided to gave in and buy it, particularly since it more than more than paid for itself in the very first two weeks I used it.

My 2001 Civic has had its NEEDS MAINTENANCE light on for a couple years and the repair (a brand new rear exhaust sensor) would be around $200 put in. I attached the ScanGauge ii  and cleared the code in order to check if it might come back. In about a thousand miles since, it has not.

Initially I justified purchasing the ScanGauge ii because over the long term, I would be able to modify my driving habits for better fuel economy, saving me money. The instantaneous gas economy and throttle % indicators have helped me to achieve this. I’m now getting more than the EPA estimated fuel economy for my car’s model. EPA city: 20 Highway: 27 Combined: 23.

Not only does it give better fuel economy, the ScanGauge has a variety of other sensors. Anything the car’s computer knows, it can tell you.
It also gives you error codes that can easily be checked over the internet, allowing you to diagnose and repair your car’s problems instead of taking it to some mechanic who will probably charge you a fee simply to plug it in.

I enjoy the “gauge” readouts and also the wide range of information provided.  I’d say it’s a very helpful product.  Based on fuel savings alone, for most people it’ll very likely pay for itself in approximately six months of typical driving.
